TRAIL FENCE
Old cedar fence posts are cut and stacked for firewood by an AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps crew from the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy as they work with the Kalkaska Conservation District to remove and replace a fence on a stretch of the North Country Trail west of Kalkaska. About 66 8-foot sections of cedar posts were replaced with treated pine posts along a bluff on the North Branch of the Boardman River. This section of the North Country Trail, which runs approximately 4,600 miles from Vermont to North Dakota, was recently re-routed to include downtown Kalkaska and this area.
