MARINERS MEMORIAL

Cadet Christina LaCombe speaks during Tuesday's 45th annual Great Lakes Mariners Memorial Service, sponsored by Propeller Club, Student Port 150, of the Great Lakes Maritime Academy. The event, which honors mariners who have perished in the Great Lakes and elsewhere, was held virtually this year due to Covid-19, with the event broadcast online via Zoom from Northwestern Michigan College's Great Lakes Campus. The event is held on the anniversary of the 1975 sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior. The entire 29-man crew was lost, including academy cadet David Weiss, and former cadet Thomas Bentsen.
