MARINERS MEMORIAL

U.S. Navy Midshipmen raise the Flag at the start of the 46th annual Great Lakes Mariners Memorial on Wednesday at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy at Northwestern Michigan College's Great Lakes Campus in Traverse City. The event, hosted by the academy's Propeller Club Student Port 150, is traditionally held on the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, a 728-foot freighter that sank in Lake Superior in 1975 will its entire crew, including two sailors with connections to the maritime academy.
