TART TRAFFIC COUNTERS

Traverse Area Recreational Trails volunteer Dave Dean installs trail counters in Hull Park to track traffic on the trail with volunteers Dave Fisher, Dave Monstrey and Chuck Percy on Thursday morning in Traverse City. An optical sensor records pedestrians and cyclist numbers and their directions, while a metal detecting sensor in the pavement records metallic items such as bicycles or strollers. The Hull Park sensors are one of seven locations on the trail system, including three on the Leelanau Trail, one at Medalie Park, one on the trail section along Parsons Road, and one at Bunker Hill Road.
