Great Lakes Maritime Academy Capt. John Biolchini (cq) throws a flower into West Grand Traverse Bay at the end of Friday's 38th annual Great Lakes Mariners Memorial Service at Northwestern Michigan College's Great Lakes Campus. The event honored mariners who have perished on the Great Lakes and oceans. The event is sponsored by the Student Propeller Club, Port 150, of the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, and is held around the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Nov 10, 1975, on Lake Superior. The wreck took 29 lives, including that of Maritime Academy cadet David Weiss.
