Traverse City's downtown Christmas tree came from the yard of Bill Hemming (cq), left, and was planted by his mother-in-law Lenore Berlin (cq), right, as a surprise to her husband about 35 years ago. The Berlin's planted the tree in Hemming's yard when they moved, and Hemming donated it to the city this year because it was getting too big. The two followed the truck that carried it, and watched its installation on Wednesday morning at Cass and Front Streets.
