DOWNTOWN TREE ARRIVES
Traverse City Parks and Recreation's Jesse Sassano trims the trunk of the Downtown Tree to fit in its hole in the street at the intersection of East Front and Cass streets on Tuesday morning in Traverse City. The blue spruce came from private property along Keystone Road, weighs 5,300 pounds and stands about 35-feet above the street. The Traverse City Downtown Development Authority has announced that the streets will not be closed for this year's Downtown Tree Lighting, but instead be broadcast at 6 p.m. on 9 and 10 News as a way of encouraging people to not gather in crowds.
