Northport second grader Christine Eggert holds a squash overheard as she and classmates in Beth Stowe's class learned about the natural processes involved in growing a squash during Wednesday's "Rock to Squash," lesson with Kirsten Gerbatsch of Food Corps as part of National Farm to School Month. Students learned where soil comes from, how squash is grown and were treated to roasted squash for lunch in the cafeteria. "It's more familiar and they're more interested to eat it," Gerbatsch said of the lesson.
