SALMON STOCKING
Record-Eagle/Jan-Michael Stump
Grand Traverse Area Sport Fishing Association past-president Pat Cole helps release over 60,000 fingerling chinook salmon into pen nets on the Boardman River, between the Cass Street and Park Street bridges, by the GTASFA and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The fish, from the DNR's Platte River Hatchery, will stay in the nets for 3 to 5 weeks until they are large enough to release into the river, which they will be implanted on and return to spawn in after spending 3 or years in Lake Michigan. The program is in its sixth year.
