SEEDS volunteer Joe Strouse removes boards from playground structures at the Kid's Kove playground on the Grand Traverse County Civic Center grounds. County officials closed the playground in September after soil test results suggested high levels of arsenic contaminated the playground's wood chips -- a byproduct of the treated wood from which the structure is built. The structure also is plagued by loose nails, rotting wood and other structural issues.
