GARDEN PLANTING EXTRAVAGANZA

Traverse Heights Elementary School fifth graders Vanessa Bermudez-McCoy, 10, left, and Abby Hill, 12, plant a tomatillo as they and their classmates transplanted seedlings, many grown in their classrooms, into outdoor garden beds during the school's Garden Planting Extravaganza. Nine classes participated in the program, with help from Food Corps members Mikaela Taylor and Stephanie Cumper. Students planted items ranging from tomatoes and peppers to cauliflower and strawberries.
