BARN FLOOR WORK
Record-Eagle photo/Jan-Michael Stump
John Strong (cq) of Team Elmer's removes dirt from around the edges of the indoor riding barn at Reining Liberty Ranch in Traverse City on Friday morning, where he and other workers removed the old dirt floor before leveling the clay bed and topping it with mortar-grade sand. The ranch is a non-profit organization that provides riding therapy for wounded veterans. Director Becki Bigelow (cq) said the old dirt floor was over 20 years old and becoming a health hazard because of the levels of dust it produced. "Not healthy for the veterans or horses," said Bigelow. "It affects everything we do."
"It may not be a big day for anyone else, but it is for us."
