INLAND SEAS GRAND OPENING
Record-Eagle/Jan-Michael Stump
Susan and Todd Vigland and Martha Garber look at the Utopia, a 77-foot schooner donated to the The Inland Seas Education Association in 2016 and recently renovated. The ship was on display during an open house celebrating the grand opening of the Capt. Thomas M. Kelly Biological Station in Suttons Bay following a $1.5 million renovation project that included dorm space for overnight educational programs, exterior building and landscaping improvements, and upgrades to lab space and shower and restrooms. The 30 year-old non-profit organization mission is to inspire curiosity, stewardship, and passion about the Great Lakes environment through hands-on experiences that include sailing on the Schoolship Inland Seas and charters on the Manitou.
