PEDESTRIAN LIGHT
Record-Eagle/Jan-Michael Stump
Michigan Department of Transportation Electricians Rob Garber, left, and Nic Wiseman install a pedestrian crossing signal on Grandview Parkway at Hall Street in Traverse City. The pedestrian hybrid beacon traffic signal, also known as a HAWK signal, was one of two installed on Grandview Parkway, allows pedestrians to activate a light signaling drivers to slow down during a countdown phase, then stop for the pedestrians to cross the street. The other light is located on Grandview Parkway at Elmwood Street a little over a half mile to the west. The crossing lights are activiated for set amounts of time, and there is a minimum of 30 seconds before the light can be activated again.
