Samples of chilis fill the tray of Hesper Smyth during Saturday's annual Downtown Chili Cook-Off in Traverse City, which was held at the State Street Marketplace this year after the demolition of its long time home at the Park Place Dome. Nearly 20 area restaurants and markets competed in categories such as 1, 2 or 3-alarm; no bean, seafood, vegetarian, ethnic, or white chili at the event, which raises funds for community events held by the Downtown Traverse City Association
