FURNACE WINNERS

Dan Carlson plays with his daughter Lucy, 5, after the family was surprised on Wednesday morning as the Furnace Makeover winners from Precision Plumbing and Heating Systems, Inc. The family of 12, including four adopted children with special needs, was relying on an aging furnace that needed a heat lamp running next to it to operate. The Traverse City company chose the Carlsons, nominated by Dan Carlson's mother, from over 100 nominations to receive a high-efficiency furnace, hot water heater, humidifier, air filtration system and smart thermostat installed in their home. The family has lived in their home for over six years, and began having furnace troubles about four years ago. "It was a battle every winter, just to get through winter," said Dan Carlson. "We've had nights where we had five space heaters running."
"It is very humbling because there are so many deserving people," added Mary Carlson. "It is a huge relief."
