DEPUTY PROMOTIONS

The Leelanau County Sheriff's Department celebrated the retirement of its K-9 Nico on Friday at the sheriff's office in Suttons Bay. Nico will live with his handler, Sgt. Greg Hornkohl, who was promoted from corporal on Friday. "He'll live the rest of his life with my family," said Hornkohl, who paid one dollar to the county to make it official. A new K-9 will join the department with a different deputy next month.
