Ice covers West Grand Traverse Bay on Monday in Traverse City. The bay is considered frozen when ice covers West Bay to Power Island - a distance of about 7 miles - for at least 24 hours, according to the Watershed Center of Grand Traverse Bay. It last froze for 53 days in 2015, and has frozen 8 times since 1990. The ice could break up with temperatures forecast to climb into the 40s on Wednesday and Thursday.
