Traverse City West Middle School eighth-graders, from left, Trystaun Bullard, Kellen Blackburn and Eric Boglan stack a railroad tie in a dumpster during Thursday's Project Greenagers 2012 on the Leelanau Trail between Grandview and Carter Roads in Greilickville. American Waste Recycling and Team Elmers donated time and equipment to help haul away the ties, left from when the rail line became a trail in the early 1980s, because of the potential for industrial preservatives used to treat the wood to leak into nearby wetlands. Other student groups from the school did work in the DeYoung Natural Area, Port Oneida and several other locations around Leelanau County.
