Brian Nowak, of Traverse City, uses a metal detector on Friday as it rains at the Keith J. Charters Traverse City State Park beach, with Nowak visible through fencing that is put up to limit the amount of sand and snow that is blown by wind. "I can't really do anything in the yard and the rain doesn't bother me," Nowak said. While searching for all types of items, he collects any garbage he finds and throws it away. "I have a little girl and she plays down here," Nowak said.
