Larry Bordine, of Traverse City, and co-owner of the Beach Nut Surf Shop in Frankfort, assembles a surfboard in the garage at his home that he's converted into a workshop. Larry builds surfboards, longboards and a variety of other boards to sell in his store. "I've always made my own toys," Larry said. "We get really good waves here, they're different, but they're really good," Larry said about his fondness for surfing in Lake Michigan, regardless of the temperature. "We had a guy from California here and he said, 'This is like a little Malibu, except nobody's here,' " Larry said. "It's an undiscovered treasure."
