Bill Hansen, left, of Traverse City talks with Jessica Alpers, a technician from the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program during a free water screening on Saturday from MAEAP and The Grand Traverse Conservation District at the Boardman River Nature Center. The test, which took about a minute from samples brought in by residents, checked for nitrates and nitrites in the water, and participants could receive information on professional testing services to go for further tests if they desired.
