Mourners leave the funeral of United States Air Force Tech Sgt. Matthew Schwartz Saturday at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Schwartz, 34, of Traverse City died in Afghanistan January 5, 2012, when his vehicle was struck by a improvised explosive device. Several local businesses provided hotel rooms and rental cars so that over a dozen of Schwartz's fellow explosive ordinance disposal team members, assigned to the 90th Civil Engineer Squadron at F.E.Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming, could make the trip.
