Mariah Bitely, left, 16, and Katie Skrzypczak, 14, both of Traverse City, walk past National Cherry Festival banners Friday, July 1, 2011 toward the Open Space. Friday’s hot, humid weather is not expected to last, said Jeff Halblaub, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gaylord. There’s a slight chance for wet weather through this afternoon, but once the skies clear, humidity will drop and temperatures will return to normal. Expect highs in the low 80s Sunday and Monday with sunny skies and overnight lows in the upper 50s. For a complete schedule of Saturday’s Cherry Festival events, see Page 3A.
