Downtown Traverse City bustled with people and energy as the crowds filtered into the city by midday. Residents and visitors hovered around the busy city shops and flocked to the beaches on the bay, and a seemingly endless flotilla of boats choked the beach west of the city marina.

Traverse City resident Fran Wilson blows out a birthday cake celebrating her 92nd birthday and the 92nd birthday of downtown Traverse City's iconic State Theatre. Wilson was born on March 17, 1916 and the State Theatre opened July 4, 1916. Wilson saw her first movie at the venue when it was called the Lyric Theatre. She watched Bad Girl in 1931.
