Instructor Gerald Ross explains pentatonic scales and how to use them to solo on the ukulele during his "Take It! An Introduction to Single Note Soloing" class at the 2014 Uketoberfest at the Interlochen Center for the Arts on Saturday. Soloing on the ukulele is easier than guitar soloing, Ross said. "The scales are shorter, the notes are closer, and the strings are made of nylon," Ross said. He also noted that many older musicians preferred the ukulele because it was easier on their hands.
