Tree swallows feed on small insects at the north end of Boardman Lake Saturday in Traverse City. The small song birds usually nest in tree cavities, and are known for forming a dense cloud above a roost site, swirling around until all the birds have settled on the roost.

Several blocks of Washington Street in Traverse City are closed as part of a sanitary sewer line repacement project between Railroad and Barlow Streets, part of the city’s annual paving and resurfacing work. The project is one of a dozen planned for residential city streets this year throughout Traverse City. Traffic will be closed to through traffic on Washington Street until the end of May.
