Santa Claus makes his way through a swarming crowd gathered for his arrival Friday evening in Traverse City. After coming to town on a horse-drawn sleigh, Santa received a key to the city from Traverse City Mayor Pro-Tem, Chris Bzdok. Hundreds turned out to watch the jolly old elf light the 30-foot Douglas fir donated from the Northwestern Michigan College University Center campus.

Santa will be in his house on the following dates and times: Saturdays, Dec. 6, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sundays, Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m.; Fridays, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m.; Extended hours: December 22 and 23 from 3 to 7 p.m.; Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, from noon to 3 p.m.

Earlier in the evening, a large crowd gathered around the 30-foot tall Douglas fir to watch Santa Claus light the tree.
