Volunteers Jim Kersjes, left, and Mark Esper remove old decking on a 512-foot bridge along the TART Trail behind the Traverse City State Park. Kersjes was camping at the state park and walked over to help. The all-volunteer project is run by TART Trails, with Home Depot donating materials, supplies and volunteers. The bridge decking was more than 15 years old and in need of replacement. It is one of five bridges along this stretch of the trail -- two have already been replaced. Volunteers ages 13 and older are welcome to help during shifts from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today and on May 17, 23, 24 and 25.
