Cruz Paniagua, right, an employee at the Peninsula Community Library, helps her brothers, 2-year-old Steven Paniagua, second from right, of Old Mission Peninsula, and 6-year-old William Paniagua, left, make necklaces and bracelets for their mom, Angelica Paniagua, second from left, during Little Amigos Story Hour at the library on Saturday. The theme of this story hour was Mother's Day, since it is celebrated on May 10 in many Spanish-speaking countries. Books that focused on mothers were read in Spanish and craft materials were available for children to create jewelry to present to their mothers. Starting in June, Little Amigos Story Hour is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the Peninsula Community Library.

Volunteers Jim Kersjes, left, and Mark Esper remove old decking on a 512-foot bridge along the TART Trail behind the Traverse City State Park. Kersjes was camping at the state park and walked over to help. The all-volunteer project is run by TART Trails, with Home Depot donating materials, supplies and volunteers. The bridge decking was more than 15 years old and in need of replacement. It is one of five bridges along this stretch of the trail -- two have already been replaced. Volunteers ages 13 and older are welcome to help during shifts from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today and on May 17, 23, 24 and 25.
