Glass broken by the heat of a house fire sits in the smoldering remains of a Williamsburg home that burned on Monday. Grand Traverse Rural and Elk Rapids Fire Departments responded to a fire that was spotted by a passing plow driver early Monday morning. No one was home in the house on Merrill Ridge Drive, which is a total loss and still under investigation. Crews had to battle frigid temperatures, and needed help from a plow to clear the home's driveway. The nearest fire hydrant was several miles away in Williamsburg, so three tanker trucks shuttled water to the site.
