HOME FOR THE HOLIDAY
Margaret Laubach greets her husband, George Laubach, 88, as he arrives home, transported by Benzie County EMS from Tendercare Traverse City for a two hour Christmas visit with his family through the help of Golden Hands Transport, a service of the non-profit Golden Intentions community resource. Laubach moved into Tendercare about a year and a half ago with dementia, said Margaret Laubach, his wife of 62 years, and has been in hospice care with Heartland Hospice since October 2014. "It was like a dream come true, said Margaret. "We never thought we'd get him home again."
George and Margaret Laubach grew up in Frankfort and Honor, respectively, but didn't meet until after college. The two raised three children in Rochelle, Ill, where George was an optometrist, then retired to Benzonia in 1997.
