Cone Drive Operations is observing its 60th anniversary this year at its 12th Street plant in Traverse City. The company began 85 years ago as a division of Michigan Tool Co. in Detroit and moved to its current location in October 1950. It's a subsidiary of David Brown Gear Systems, and develops and manufactures worm gears and helical gearing used in the packaging, mining, food service, defense and aerospace industries. The company employs around 170 workers in Traverse City and an additional 30 at its facility in Ludington.
