Firefighters from Elmwood Township, Leland, Suttons Bay/Bingham and Cedar responded to a house fire at 11066 Bayshore Dr. Monday afternoon for a fire that is believed to have started in the basement, but grew to take the entire house. The homeowever, Paul Glowacki, was home at the time, but escaped unharmed. Crews arrived after 2 p.m. and began fighting the fire inside the house, but pulled back for a defensive attack once the fire made it into the walls of the home, said Elmwood Township fire chief Keith Tampa. "We wish we had more people," to fight the fire, said Tampa. Tanker trucks traveled to and from a fire hydrant on Cherry Bend Road roughly two miles away. Traffic was diverted from M-22 between Cherrybend and Crain Hill Roads while crews fought the blaze.
