Traverse City is a wonderful place, we have so many wonderful buildings in
our community. What is really sad is that our buildings and sidewalks are
under attack, by people unknown, that think they are important highly
evolved people for distroying the beauty of our community. I wanted to cry
when I saw what those people did to the Bear over the Gift Shop. Someone
went alot of time and trouble to create this bear, to add to our community
is a unique way, only to have it distroyed with 2 months of it opening.
This isn't just one person responciblity, it is every member of the
community. This is our community, one I hope we take pride in and their are
things we can do.
1st- we can let people know that this behaivor is not excepted here. Start a
Community Pride program.
2nd give these people a creative outlet. I propose we find some money and
mount some huge Canvases around town for people to Tag as Art. After they
are finished and hung for a while for people to admire the talant of good
taggers, Auction them off as Art. Use the proceeds to buy new canvases to
hang and put the rest into a community beautification fund.
3rd lets keep watch for people tagging, take a drive around area's that are
being hit. Call in and report them so they will have community service
cleaning up what they have damaged. Good couple days of scrubbing paint off
brick is likely to give them second thoughts.
Reality is big city people are moving into Traverse City and sometimes so of
those big city bad habits come with them. It is up to everyone in the
communtiy to let those who think big city gangs, tagging, drugs and crime
are cool, that it isn't cool in Traverse City. Traverse City isnt' the big
bad City and we don't want it to be. You are welcome in the community, so
long as you take pride in what we have here. Leave the big city baggage at
the door please there is no room for it here....
